Clay Slab Pots are on display in the ArtRoom!

Our young artists rolled slabs of clay and used

cardboard templates to create a shape.

They used the score and slip technique to construct their beautiful pot!

TILED MASTERPIECES IN THE ARTROOM!

Each class was given a masterpiece to reproduce

and take a look at what they have done!

Copies of the paintings were cut up into 12 or 16 pieces and each artist painted their own abstract piece.

When all the pieces came together,

class by class, the results were amazing...

We used the color copies as puzzles as an intro to this project...enjoy!

We're off to a great start this fall!

It has been a busy 2 weeks of classes.

We set up a Mixed Media Workshop

in the studio for our "Apple Still Life" project.

The kids worked in oil pastel, charcoal, watercolor,

acrylic, printmaking, ink and collage.

All these wonderful options

made for some very beautiful apples!

We started the week with Peach, a Rhode Island Red!

She is one proud chicken!

On Tuesday we painted in acrylic on masonite board.

Her playful personality made her a

perfect model for this class!

Lola modeled on Wednesday.

She enjoyed hay, apples and carrots and looked at every drawing the kids did.

She seemed very pleased with the work!

Thursday, Oliver, a very handsome yellow lab,

was our guest.

He loved working with the children!

On Friday, Henry was our model. No problem holding poses here...

SCULPTURE WEEK SUMMER 2010!

This week was inspiring! A creative group of young artists created these "abstract sculptures".

They chose to work in wood with lines and angles or cardboard tubes with rounds and curves.

FRANK STELLA INSPIRED GRAFFITI RELIEFS

The children painted in acrylic on corrugated board.

They sprayed, splattered, combed, dripped and experimented with colors and textures.

This intensive course is designed to give the student the opportunity to work in dual media while working from the figure, or to continue to focus on development of one. Students will draw and paint(oils) while exploring anatomical, painting, and design concepts and techniques. The student will strive to bring individual creativity, visual problem solving, and craftsmanship into accord with their artistic vision. This is a great refresher course for those who wish to rehone their skills after a long hiatus or for those who wish to continue working with the figure. Prerequisite: Figure drawing experience.

In two 1 1/2 hour classes,

Eric will excite students about the power and joy of photography.

The first session will start with a brief talk, and then the group

will explore lovely downtown Topsfield with their cameras.

The students will then return the loaned digital media cards to Eric.

The second session will be a review and discussion of everybody's photos, which will be projected on the big screen.

Students must have a functioning, fully charged digital camera that accepts either SD cards or CF cards. Eric will loan you the cards, you only need the camera. Please make sure the battery is fully charged. If you have a spare battery, please have that one fully charged also.

Watercolor Landscapes

Our young artists choose a photo reference that they wanted to paint.

The children experimented with salt, wax and masking tape to create these beautiful paintings!

Our sculptural vases took several weeks to design and build but well worth the effort!

Our young artists designed a shape which was then cut out of recycled board. With the use of chip board and masking tape their originals designs came to life. Plaster and paint completed this project with fabulous results!

ENAMEL JEWELRY WORKSHOP WITH

Enameling is the art of fusing powdered glass to metal. You will learn the basic techniques of kiln fired enamel. Using colors of your own choice, you will be able to create unique and beautiful compositions. The focus will be on creating a finished pendant of your own design. (All materials for the pendant with attached bail are included in the $10.00 materials fee. Sterling Silver chains and gift boxes will be available for purchase at a very reasonable additional cost.)

This week we designed

Symmetrical Faces in oil pastel on black paper.

Our young artists drew half a face in white pastel on a folded piece of black paper. We the turn their drawing inward and iron it until the pastel melted to the opposite side creating a perfectly symmetrical image. Additional colors were then added symmetrically.

was taught by Erik Lomen, a senior art student from

Montserrat College of Art.

We looked at skateboard graphics and watched videos for inspiration!

Each artist came up with their original design through a sketch, which was then transferred and painted onto a wooden deck.

THIS WEEK WAS A HUGE SUCCESS THANKS TO

OUR INCREDIBLE LIVE MODELS!

We started the week with a life drawing lesson in pencil with our model

"PEACH" the chicken.

"TIFFANY" the rabbit was our model on Tuesday.

We worked in acrylic paint on recycled board.

and "TWIX" the guinea pig was so happy to be in the studio too!

"LOLA" the mini horse arrived on Wednesday morning.

Our artists worked in oil pastel on black paper!

Handsome "OLIVER" modeled for us on Thursday.

He came to us with past modeling experience and it showed!

We ended the week with "HENRY" who loved to

hold 5 and 10 minute poses with no problem at all.

This class completed the week with a portfolio of drawings and paintings!

ACRYLIC WORKSHOP FOR ADULTS

Award winning acrylic painter and instructor, Ellen Rolli will be giving

an adult one-day painting workshop at the ArtRoom in Topsfield .

Ellen applies an abstract, expressionistic technique to

realistic subject matter by focusing on

simple composition, bold color and strong and deliberate brushstrokes.

Her approach is direct, painterly and intuitive.
